Statement on Cesar Chavez Allegations

Water Education for Latino Leaders (WELL) is deeply saddened by the recent allegations involving Cesar Chavez. First and foremost, we hold the victims in our thoughts and extend our sincere hope that they receive the care, justice, and support they deserve. No young girl or woman should ever have to endure abuse or violence of any kind.

At the same time, we recognize that the United Farm Workers movement was larger than any one individual. It was built through the courage, sacrifice, and collective action of thousands of farmworkers and organizers who fought for dignity, fairness, and equality. Their contributions remain an important part of our shared history.

As we reflect on this moment, we reaffirm our commitment to uplifting the values of justice, respect, and accountability. We can honor the broader movement, while also standing firmly with survivors and advocating for a future where all are treated with dignity.

Many of us continue to look to the farmworker movement as a symbol of strength, hope, and orgullo.
